Allison Fluker hit her first career home run while sophomore
Jada Davis went 2-for-3 belting her first homer of the season along with an RBI double as Detroit Mercy opened UNA Tournament play with a 10-3 setback to Sanford and 6-0 loss to host North Alabama on Friday at Hilda B. Anderson Softball Stadium.
Freshman
Wendy Ketola went 1-for-3 with a double while redshirt sophomore
Rusti Glenn, junior
Jenna Holt, and sophomore
Claire Borg each recorded a hit against the Bulldogs (14-7).
Klaft and freshman
Allison Fluker recorded the Titans' (2-11) only hits against the Lions (16-3) in the nightcap while Ketola drew two walks.
Samford Recap:
• After Samford went up 1-0 in the first inning, Fluker's solo shot leveled the game in the second.
• The Bulldogs went ahead 2-1 off a homer until Davis' long ball tied the game at 2-2 in the second.
• Samford added three runs in the third and fourth innings to lead 8-2.
• After the Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, Davis hit a double to right center field to score Holt but that would be the only run UDM would get as they left two base runners stranded.
North Alabama Recap
• Ketola was left stranded after drawing a walk to open the game.
• North Alabama took a 1-0 lead in the first off an RBI double
• Fluker singled in the second but was caught stealing second base.
• UNA added a solo homer in the third and another RBI double in the fourth to lead 3-0.
• All three of their runs came with two outs.
• Klaft got on base with a single in the fifth but later was out on a line-out double play.
• Ketola was left stranded for the second time in the sixth.
• The Lions added three more runs in the bottom half to seal the win.
