Madeline Hallman each added a hit as the Titans came up on the short end of a pitcher's duel with a 4-1 set at Robert Morris in series-opening action at the North Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman
Erin Flynn was solid in 3.0 innings of work allowing only four hits and one earned run with a strikeout. Senior
Jordan Kavanagh tossed 3.0 scoreless innings in relief not allowing a hit with three strikeouts.
Recap:
• RMU (20-11, 12-3 HL) got on the board first as Flynn had an errant throw to first base off a sac bunt that allowed two unearned runs to score. The Colonials added an RBI single for another unearned run and a 3-0 lead.
• UDM (7-24, 4-9 HL) scored their lone run with an RBI single by Davis to score junior
Jenna Holt who reached on an error to trail 3-1 in the top of the third inning.
• The Colonials responded with a solo home run in the bottom half to move ahead 4-1.
• In the top of the fourth inning, freshman
Wendy Ketola drew a walk, advanced to second off a wild pitch, and then stole third but was left stranded.
• With two out in the top of the seventh, Hallman hit a single and advanced to third base off a wild pitch. Once again, the Titans could not push across the run to draw closer leaving her stranded to end the game.
Detroit Mercy and Robert Morris conclude the series with a doubleheader on Sunday, Apr. 13. at noon & 2:30 p.m.
