Erin Flynn was dynamic in the circle locking down her second complete game win of the week tossing 7.0 innings allowing only one run on five scattered hits with six strikeouts leading Detroit Mercy to a #HLSB sweep over Robert Morris with a 4-1 game two win. Junior
Trinity Fessler picked the perfect time to hit her first home run of the season with a two-run shot, lifting the Titans to a 9-5 win in game one at the North Athletic Complex on Sunday afternoon. With the sweep, UDM secured its second consecutive league series win for the first time since the 2019 season.
Fessler went 3-for-9 overall with four RBI off a single, double, and homer with three runs scored. Freshman
Madeline Hallman hit 4-for-8 overall with two RBI, two runs scored, and two walks in game one, while sophomore
Jada Davis went 2-for-6 with a pair of RBI. Freshman
Wendy Ketola hit 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored in each game.
Senior
Jordan Kavanagh won her fourth game of the season, going the distance in game one, recording three strikeouts. Sophomore
Liv Peterson went 2-for-4 with an RBI while senior
Amanda Schick also added an RBI single in game one.
Game 1 Recap:
• RMU (20-13, 12-5 HL) took a 1-0 in the first inning pulling off a double steal
• UDM got the bases loaded in the top of the second inning and got a two-run single from Hallman to take the lead 2-1.
•.The Titans extended their lead to 5-1 off RBI singles from Fessler to score Hallman, Peterson to score Klaft, and Schick to score Fessler in the top of the fifth inning.
• The Colonials pulled within a run in the bottom half off a three-run homer at 5-4.
• UDM responded in the top of the sixth as freshman
Abby Klaft reached on a fielder's choice to score Ketola. Then Fessler Feller delivered her two-run shot giving the Titans a 8-4 lead.
• Ketola added an RBI single to score freshman
Natalie Babcock for a 9-4 lead in the top of the seventh.
• RMU added a run in the bottom half with one out but Kavanagh closed the door, getting the final two batters to pop out.
Game 2 Recap:
• The Titans struck first with back-to-back RBI doubles from Fessler and Davis to take a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
• RMU got a run back with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth to close within a run at 2-1.
• In the top of the seventh, Ketola dropped down a sacrifice squeeze bunt to score freshman
Leah Daniels. With the bases loaded, then Davis drew a walk to plate Ketola for a 4-1 lead.
• The Colonials got runners on second and third in the bottom half with one out but Flynn sealed the deal with a strikeout and ground out.
Detroit Mercy returns to Buysse Ballpark with a #HLSB series against Northern Kentucky starting on Good Friday, Apr. 18. at 3 p.m.
