Flynn Brilliant in the Circle as Titans Split Doubleheader with Northern Kentucky

Flynn the tosses a two-hit complete game with a career-high eight strikeouts

DETROIT (4-18-25) - Freshman Erin Flynn, the reigning #HLSB Pitcher of the Week, was straight dealin' once again in the circle as she locked down a two-hit complete game win allowing only one run with a career-high eight strikeouts to lead Detroit Mercy to a 7-1 game one win over Northern Kentucky in doubleheader action at Buysse Ballpark on Good Friday. The Titans fell 6-0 in the nightcap.

Junior Trinity Fessler and sophomore Jada Davis belted back-to-back home runs in the first inning while senior Amanda Schick went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored. Freshman Natalie Babcock added a two-run single, with freshmen Allison Fluker and Wendy Ketola posting an RBI each in game one.

Davis went 2-for-3 while Fessler, Fluker, sophomore Claire Borg, and redshirt sophomore Lauren Creon each recorded one of Detroit Mercy's (10-27, 7-10 HL) six hits in game two.

Game 1 Recap:
• Fessler and Davis' back-to-back jacks, followed by a bases-loaded walk from Ketola to score sophomore Liv Peterson, gave UDM a 3-0 lead in the first inning,
• NKU (19-21, 10-6 HL) got their only run of the game off a home run in the top of the second inning.
• UDM responded with four runs in the bottom half to move ahead 7-1 off a RBI singles from Schick and Fluker, followed by a two-run infield single from Babcock.
• That would be all Flynn needed as she only allowed one hit the rest of the way to close out the game.

Game 2 Recap:
• After two scoreless innings for both teams, NKU got an RBI single in the third, and two sac flies in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead.
• The Norse added a run on a ground out in the top of the fifth to lead 4-0.
• UDM had its best chance to get back into the game in the bottom half as they got the bases loaded off a walk, single and hit-by-pitch with two outs. However, they couldn't get a run across, leaving the bases juiced.
• NKU added a pair of insurance runs off a two-run homer in the top of the seventh.

Detroit Mercy and Northern Kentucky will play the rubber match on Saturday, Apr. 19. at noon.
