Jada Davis hit a two-run home run while senior
Amanda Schick hit 3-for-6 overall as Detroit Mercy dropped a 3-0 and 9-3 #HLSB series opening doubleheader at Green Bay on Sunday afternoon.
Freshman
Allison Fluker also recorded a hit in each game as she, Davis, and Schick accounted for all six of Detroit Mercy's (10-28, 7-13 HL) hits on the day.
Game 1 Recap:
• Green Bay (14-27, 7-13 HL) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning off a pair of RBI singles.
• The Phoenix added another RBI single in the third inning to move ahead 3-0.
• After freshman
Abby Klaft was hit by a pitch to lead off the fifth inning, Schick broke up the no-hitter with a double, giving the Titans runners in scoring position at first and third.
• However, GB pitcher Genesis Eggart retired the next three batters to get out of the jam, keeping the Titans off the board.
• Freshman
Madeline Hallman got aboard with another hit by pitch in the top of the 6th inning but was thrown out at second base on a fielder's choice by Davis, who was later left stranded to end the inning off a strikeout.
• Schick posted a single in the bottom of the seventh with one out. Fluker added another single with two outs, but both were left stranded to end the game.
Game 2 Recap:
• Davis' two-run homer gave the Titans an early 2-0 lead in the first inning
• GB got two unearned runs off a fielding error in the second inning, followed by an RBI single to plate another unearned run to take a 3-2 lead.
• The Phoenix added an RBI double for a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning.
• The Titans got an unearned run back in the sixth as Hallman reached on an error while freshman
Wendy Ketola scored to trail by a run at 4-3.
• Green Bay then hung a crooked number with five runs off two RBI doubles and a pair of RBI singles to take a commanding 9-3 lead.
• The Titans got the bases loaded as Schick reached on an error, followed by a walk from sophomore
Claire Borg and a single by Fluker with two outs. However, UDM left bases juiced off a ground out, ending the game.
Both teams will play the series finale on Monday, April 28 at Noon ET.
