DETROIT (5-1-25) - Freshmen
Allison Fluker and
Abby Klaft had quite the day at the plate as Fluker went 2-for-3 with two RBI off a pair of solo home runs while Klaft hit 3-for-3 with three RBI off a double and two-run homer. However, it was not enough as Detroit Mercy was edged 6-5 by IU Indy in a wild #HLSB series opener at Buysse Ballpark on Friday afternoon.

Wendy Ketola and
Madeline Hallman, each recorded a hit.
Freshman
Erin Flynn almost went the distance in the circle, tossing 6.2 innings with three strikeouts.
Recap:
• Detroit Mercy (10-31, 7-15 HL) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off Klaft's RBI double, scoring sophomore
Jada Davis.
• Fluker connected on her first solo shot in the second inning, moving the Titans ahead 2-0.
• IU Indy (19-25, 13-9 HL) got on the board in the third inning with a solo homer of their own cutting the deficit to 2-1.
• Fluker belted her second solo homer over the left field wall, moving UDM ahead 3-1 in the fourth.
• Once again, the Jags responded via the long ball with a two-run homer in the sixth inning tying the game at 3-3.
• The Titans moved back ahead 5-3 as Klaft belted a two-run rocket to left field in the bottom half of the sixth.
• IU Indy mounted a comeback in the top of the seventh, getting a run off a wild pitch. They added two more runs off a sac bunt and RBI single to take a 6-5 lead.
• Ketola got aboard to start the bottom of the seventh with a single, followed by a bunt single from Hallman. Ketola then stole third bringing the tying run 60 feet away.
• After a strikeout, Hallman stole second, putting both runners in scoring position. However, the last two batters were retired leaving two on base to end the game.
Both teams will conclude the series with a doubleheader on Senior Day Saturday, May 3, at noon and 2 p.m.
