HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (3-11-26) - Detroit Mercy won their third game in a row, led by sophomore
Abby Klaft, who hit 1-for-2 with a team-best three RBI, while freshman
Savannah Schultz went 2-for-5 with two RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases as the Titans outlasted Alabama A&M 11-7 on Wednesday afternoon at the Bulldog Softball Field. Schultz also picked up her fourth win in the circle, tossing 5.0 innings in relief with three strikeouts.
The Titans were also leading game two 11-5 with two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning. However, the game was called due to rainy weather and lightning in the area, and is not official due to the fact that four full innings were not completed.
Freshman
Jenna Higgins, senior
Trinity Fessler, and junior
Jada Davis each posted two hits and an RBI, with Davis notching her team-best second triple of the season. Freshman
Addison Pokley recorded one of UDM's 10 total hits on the day.
Recap:
• Alabama A&M took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a groundout in the second inning.
• UDM went to work in the third inning as Schultz hit a two-run single, scoring Fessler and Higgins. Schlachter then scored off a throwing error, giving the Titans a 3-1 lead in the top of the third
• The Bulldogs regained the lead at 6-3 with five runs (one unearned) in the bottom half.
• The Titans added four runs (two unearned) in the fifth inning as Klaft was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Freshman
Hannah Schlachter scored off a wild pitch, followed by an RBI single from Higgins, giving UDM its first lead of the game at 7-6.
• Kalft delivered again in the sixth inning with a two-run single, scoring Schultz and Fessler. moving UDM ahead 9-7
• Davis' triple was the icing on the cake in the seventh inning, scoring Higgins while Fessler followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Davis for an 11-7 lead.
• Schultz kept the Bulldogs off the board over the final two innings to preserve the four-run win.
