Biography

Career: Ended his career with 41 singles wins (fifth in school history) and 47 doubles wins (2nd in school history).

2012-13: Named All-Academic Went 7-13 in singles play and 8-13 (2-3 HL) in doubles action… He had one win at third singles, two at fourth, two at fifth and two at sixth… He was 1-4 at second doubles and 7-7 at third doubles… He had a pair of wins against Toledo (1/20) with a win at fourth singles and third doubles… Took two wins against Grand Valley (2/1) at fifth singles and third doubles… Earned a singles win against Wayne State (2/2) in the fourth slot… Took both singles and doubles matches against Dayton (2/24)... On the trip to Florida he took his match at third singles and at second doubles against Bentley (3/10)… Opened the conference schedule with a doubles win against Youngstown State (3/23)… Earned another doubles win against Wright State (3/30)… Won a singles match against North Illinois (4/12) and followed that with back-to-back doubles wins at IPUI (4/13) and at IPFW (4/14)… Finished the year with a singles win in the semi-finals round of the Horizon League Championships against Cleveland State (4/27)… Member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
 
2011-12: Earned an 8-7 record at singles and a 12-20 mark in doubles... Won three singles matches at the Michigan State Fall Invite (9/16-18)... Defeated IPFW (6-4, 6-3) and Wayne State (6-3, 6-4)... Won three Horizon League singles matches in a row against Wright State (6-2, 7-6, 7-5; 4/1) Valparaiso (6-3, 6-0; 4/6) and against UIC (7-6 (7-3), 7-5; 4/7)... Teamed up with David Streeter for a 2-6 record and Jay Joshi for a 2-2 record... Named to UDM Athletic Director's Honor Roll... Named to 2012 Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll.

2010-11: Named the Horizon League Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Feb. 22 after a 6-0 weekend with road wins over IUPUI, IPFW, and Chicago State... Combined with Cesar Escobar Serrano to win eight straight doubles matches from Jan. 21 to Mar. 18 that included a 8-7 (8-6) win in the No. 3 position over #49 ranked Michigan State... Finished second on the team with eight dual-match singles wins while accumulating three of those in the Horizon League... In doubles, Cheung and partner Serrano topped all other Titans with nine victories in the dual season... Earned the team's Most Improved award as recognized by the coaches... Member of the Horizon League's 2010 Fall and 2011 Spring Academic Honor Roll... Named to the 2010 UDM Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

2009-10: A promising freshman campaign, Cheung was second on the squad with 13 singles wins and third on the team tallying 24 total victories…Had wins at No. 3 and No. 5, but did most of his damage in the singles department with six wins at No. 6…Won his opening match at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships qualifying rounds defeating Jamie Firth of Eastern Illinois, 7-6 (2), 6-4… Partnered with Pjotrs Necajevs for three wins and a runner-up finish at the top doubles flight at the MSU Frank Beeman Invitational… Posted his first career win at the IPFW Fall Invite downing Joel Modesitt of IUPUI, 6-4, 5-7, 10-7… Had three singles wins in HL action with his first coming against Wright State’s Evan Neuman, 6-0, 7-6 (4)…His No. 3 winning singles effort came by way of a three-set effort over IPFW’s Luis Maselli, 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (4)…Earned a spot on the University of Detroit Mercy Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Prior to Detroit: One of the top players in Mississauga, ON…Named a rising senior in the 2010 class by Tennisrecruiting.net…A lefty, Cheung participated in a number of junior events including the 2008 U18 ITF World Ranking Event 2 and the 27th All Canadian ITF Junior Championships.

Personal: Son of Linda and Dennis Cheung... His hobbies include watching movies and listening to music…Has one sister Lauren (21)…Chose Detroit because it is a small school with a great academic reputation…A business major.
