Career: He finished his career with a school-record 59 singles wins and has 32 doubles wins (7th in school history).
2012-13: Finished the year with the best record on the team (12-4, 3-2 HL) with four wins at second singles, five at third singles and three at fourth… Had a 9-5 mark in doubles play with three at first doubles, one at second and five more at third… He opened the year with a doubles win against Toledo… Earned a pair of wins against Grand Valley (2/1) and took his singles match against Wayne State (2/2)… After a two week break he took both singles and doubles matches against Dayton and took his singles match against Duquesne (3/1)… He took a pair of matches against Bentley in Florida (3/10)… Opened conference play with a singles win over Youngstown State (3/23)… Took a match against UIC (4/6) at fourth singles… Earned a pair of wins against Valpo (4/6)… Took his doubles match against Northern Illinois (4/12) and closed out the non-conference schedule with double wins over IUPUI (4/13) and IPFW (4/14)… Won both his singles and doubles matches against Youngstown (4/26) in the first round of the Horizon League Championships… Earned a point in the Semi-Final round of the HL Championships at second singles against Cleveland State (4/27)… Named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
2011-12: Led the team with 20 wins in singles... Earned four doubles wins...Won three of four matches at the Michigan State Fall Invite (9/16-18)... Won five straight matches from January 21 to February 4... After a loss, won seven in a row highlighted by three HL victories... Won 7-5, 6-4 against Valpo (4/6) and won a marathon match against UIC (4/7) at #2 singles (3-6, 6-4, 6-1)... defeated Chicago State (6-2, 6-1) and defeated Green Bay 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 (4/20)... Teamed with Pablo Nunez to win two matches at the Michigan State Fall Invite (9/16-18)... Defeated Cleveland State (9/30) in a tie break (9-8 (77-4))... Defeated Western Michigan (8-9 (8-6)) on Jan. 12.
2010-11: On a three-match weekend road trip, captured five wins in five matches with victories over IUPUI, IPFW, and Chicago State Feb. 18-20 ... Combined with Chris Cheung to win eight straight doubles matches from Jan. 21 to Mar. 18 that included a 8-7 (8-6) win in the No. 3 position over #49 ranked Michigan State (Feb. 26)... Earned a marathon win at Marquette (Apr. 9) from the No. 2 position. He fell in the first set 6-2, but took the second 7-6, including 14-12 in the tiebreaker, before taking the final ten-point tiebreaker 10-6 for the win... Named the UDM Newcomer of the Year at the annual Titan Academic & Athletic Honors Luncheon... Finished the year with a team-best 10 singles wins to just nine losses and captured three Horizon League victories as well... Along with Cheung, ended the campaign with a team-best nine doubles wins... After retiring in a contest at Ball State (Feb. 5), closed out the year 8-5 in singles posting a 3-1 mark at No. 4, 2-2 at No. 3, and a 3-2 record in the No. 2 position... Named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll.
2009-10: Joined the Titans in January for the dual season…Selected to the All-Horizon League second team becoming the first Titan freshman to receive All-Conference accolades… Also named the team’s Newcomer of the Year…Finished the season fourth on the squad with 11 singles wins and was 6-1 in Horizon League action moving up in the lineup from No. 4 and 5 to start the year all the way to No. 2 in the Titans’ final two matches…He added eight more wins for UDM in doubles…Posted his first career win in singles in come from behind fashion against Toledo’s Gursher Harika, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, and also teamed with Patrick Troy for an 8-4 win in doubles…Defeated Wright State’s Jan Alafriz, 6-3, 6-2, in his first conference tilt, a win that started a six-match winning streak in HL play.
Prior to Detroit: One of the top players in El Salvador as well as one of the top ranked junior players in Central America in 2008…Won two of three Central American singles tournaments in 2008, defeating two ranked International Tennis Federation (ITF) players…Also won in doubles at the ITF U18 G4 El Salvador Jr. Open and at the G5 COPA San Agustin in Monterrey, Mexico in 2009…Twice honored with El Savador’s Sport Excellency award, given by the President of El Savador Antonio Saca.
Personal: Son of Flor Maria Escobar Serrano and Manuel de Jesús Escobar Serrano... Has a sister Sara Maria Escobar Serrano and brother Rocio Beatriz Escobar Serrano... His hobbies include going to the movies, playing soccer, listening to music and going to the beach…An electrical and computer engineering major.
