IPFW Fall Invitational Day Two Results
The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team wrapped up the weekend with an impressive doubles display at IPFW's Mastodon Invitational. UDM's top three tandems combined for a ledger of 6-0 on Sunday afternoon, taking home championship honors in the top two flights in the process.
Detroit's top duo of Annie Moore (St.Clair, MI/St.Clair) and Zeljka Minic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sport) squeezed out an 8-6 semi-finals victory over IPFW's #1 doubles pair before the senior Titan netters stormed to victory in the finals by way of an 8-2 triumph over Evansville's #1 team of Chybowski & Kotsiou.
Joining Moore and Minic in the winners' circle was the Red and White combo of Svetlana Flankova (Riga, Latvia/Secondary 21) and freshman Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom (Gothenburg, Sweden/Katrinelunds Gymnasiet), who finished off their debut together by going 3-0 and securing the title in their eight-team #2 doubles flight.
In singles action, two Titans captured their individual singles flight titles in Minic and sophomore Erin Weldon (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan). Both Minic and Weldon went undefeated on the weekend in three singles contests.
All told, the Titans posted wins in 23 of 30 recorded matches over the weekend, going 15-6 in singles and 8-1 in doubles.
Next up on the docket is the ITA Midwest Regional hosted by Michigan State, which begins on Oct. 23.
