ESPN+ Friday vs. Oakland
DETROIT (4/25/19) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team earned the No. 6 seed and will square off with third-seeded Oakland as the Titans and Golden Grizzlies extend their Metro Series rivalry into the Horizon League Tournament.
The match is set to begin at 3 p.m. on Friday from Schwartz Tennis Center on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Titans enter the tournament at 10-11 overall and 3-6 in HL play.
Jasmine Apawti, a First Team All-HL selection in 2019, anchors the lineup from the No. 1 position. Apawti went 6-3 from No. 1 singles in league play.
Ksenia Providokhina is tied for the team lead with 19 wins, including a 5-4 mark from No. 4 in HL play.
Iris Thioux has 15 wins, including an 11-10 mark from No. 2.
The Golden Grizzlies, meanwhile, enter the contest at 13-8 overall and 7-2 in league play. Oakland is led by Ava Thielman, the Horizon League Player of the Year, and Second Team selection Darya Maltseva.
The Golden Grizzlies defeated the Titans, 6-1, earlier this season. The winner will go on to face No. 2 Cleveland State on Saturday.
