Horizon League Release
INDIANAPOLIS (4/25/19) – Sophomore
Jasmine Apawti was named First Team All-Horizon League and twin sister
Chelsea Apawti earned the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award, as voted on by the league's coaches, the conference office unveiled Thursday afternoon.
Jasmine Apawti picked right up where she left off after her rookie season in 2018, when she was named to the league's second team. Apawti earns the First Team nod in 2019 after a strong season at No. 1 singles and doubles for the Titans. Apawti leads the team with 19 wins and is 19-10 overall in singles. Apawti is 14-6 from the top court, including a 6-3 mark in Horizon League play. Apawti went 4-2 against HL opponents to earn first or second team honors in 2019.
Chelsea Apawti earns the Herb Foster Sportsmanship Award after a solid season while playing primarily on the Titans' No. 3 singles line and No. 1 doubles line. Apawti is fourth on the team with 11 singles wins, with three victories during league play. The award is given in honor of former Wright State men's and women's tennis coach Herb Foster, who passed away in 2004.
The Titans earned the 6th-seed in the Horizon League Tournament and will face No. 3 Oakland in the quarterfinals on Friday at 3 p.m. from the Schwartz Tennis Center at Purdue University. The winner will go on to face No. 2 Cleveland State on Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind.
