WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (4/26/19) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's tennis team suffered a late 4-3 loss to Oakland in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League Tournament on Friday evening from Schwartz Tennis Center at Purdue University.
The No. 6 Titans jumped on No. 3 Oakland early, looking to avenge a loss to their rivals earlier this season. Detroit Mercy took the doubles point and two of the first three points in singles to go ahead, 3-1.
The rivals would go toe-to-toe across the final three matches, with all three going to extra sets. The battle would go in favor of the third-seeded Golden Grizzlies, as Oakland completed the comeback and snuck past the Titans by a 4-3 margin.

- The match would come down to No. 4 singles, where Alexandra Whall edged Ksenia Providokhina for a 7-6 win in the opening set. Providokhina answered with a 6-4 win in the second, before Whall closed the match with a 6-3 win in the third.
The Titans finish the season at 10-12 overall, while Oakland improves to 13-8 and advances to the semifinals to take on No. 2 Cleveland State.
