Poulin Earns Two Career Marks At Macomb Open

Senior thrower Danielle Poulin (Sterling Heights, MI / Warren Cousino) set two career marks on the day as the UDM women's track and field team made the short trip to Macomb County to take part in the Macomb Open on Friday. 

Poulin was second in the weight with a career best mark of 50'1", becoming just the 11th Titan to throw over 50. She was also second in the shot put with a toss of 41'10.75", a new personal record by over three inches as well as the eighth best distance in Titan history. 

Senior Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI / Okemos) was also dominant in her section of the weight winning the event with a career best heave of 52'8", a throw that now stands seventh in school history. 

The Titan 4x400-meter relay team of seniors Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI / Grosse Pointe North), Chanteenel McClendon, Chrissy Bieling (Dryden, MI / Dryden) and junior Katie Taylor (Emmett, MI / Yale) claimed first clocked at 4:15.0. McClendon also ran in the 800m finishing second in 2:25.9. 

Freshman Monica Betker (Mecosta, MI / Chippewa Hills) came away with a victory in the pole vault with a mark of 8'6", while rookie Kiana Sledge (Dearborn, MI / Robichaud) made her collegiate debut by taking fifth in the 60m with a time of 8.54. 

Detroit had two multi competitors in the pentathlon. Senior Ashley Schinske (Paw Paw, MI / Paw Paw), the school record holder in the event, placed second with 2,793 points, while freshman Amanda Campbell (Lockport, NY / Lockport) was right behind her finishing third with 2,393, a score that moved her into seventh place in the UDM record book. 

UDM will take a have a month off for winter break before embarking on the 2009 indoor campaign, beginning with a trip to Ypsilanti to compete in the EMU Invitational on Jan. 10.
