Women's Tennis Impressive On Day One Of The Detroit Titans Fall Invitational

Detroit Titans Fall Invitational Day One Results

Day 1 of the Detroit Titans Fall Invitational was contested indoors due to inclement weather, but that didn't stop UDM's women's tennis team from getting off to a quick start in fall action when the team opened play on Friday night at the Franklin Athletic Club.

The Titan netters scored wins in 8 of 10 matches, and another two rounds of doubles and singles are slated throughout the remainder of the weekend.

Seniors Annie Moore and Zeljka Minic cruised in singles play against Oakland as Moore posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory, while Minic took a pair of 6-3 decisions. The seniors would later team up for an 8-4 doubles victory over the Golden Grizzles.

Senior Aneta Maricevic swept both sets in her contest, 7-5 and 6-2, while classmate Kelly Davis took control of her match right from the start en route to a 6-0, 6-2 score. Also victorious on the night against Oakland was sophomore Erin Weldon who took both of her sets 6-1 and 6-0.

In doubles play against OU, Weldon and junior Svetlana Flankova turned in an 8-3 victory, while Maricevic and rookie Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom closed out the night with an 8-4 win.

Matches will resume late Saturday afternoon indoors for the four team event, which includes Detroit, Cleveland State, IPFW, and Oakland.
