Women's Tennis Wraps Up Play At BGSU Invitational

Bowling Green Fall Invitational Full Results

Titan seniors Annie Moore (St. Clair, MI/St. Clair) and Zeljka Minic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sport) advanced to the championship match in the #1 Doubles Flight on Sunday at the Bowling Green Fall Invitational after their early morning 8-1 semifinal win over Xavier's top doubles tandem, but Moore and Minic came up short in the finals (8-2) against Akron's Harutyunyan and Castro Cota.

Joining Moore and Minic in a flighted doubles final were teammates Svetlana Flankova (Riga, Latvia/Secondary 21) and Aneta Maricevic (Hamilton, ON/Glendale). Flankova and Maricevic were a perfect 3-0 on the weekend in the fourth doubles flight and took top honors with wins over Eastern Illinois, Cleveland State, and Akron.

Detroit went 4-3 in singles action on Sunday, led by Minic at #2 Singles who won her consolation final over IUPUI's Vanessa Carna by a margin of 6-0, 6-2. Erin Weldon (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan) and Kelly Davis (South Lyon, MI/North Farmington) also won their respective consolation draws at the #6 and #7 positions with victories on Sunday afternoon.

Newcomer Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom (Gothenburg, Sweden/Katrinelunds Gymnasiet) won her 3rd Place match in the #5 singles flight with a straight set triumph over Akron's Kerry Langworthy, 6-4, 6-1.

Detroit will return to action next weekend when it travels to East Lansing for the MSU Spartan Cup.
