EMU Open Results
Paced by five top five finishes, the Detroit women's track and field program opened the new season with a short trip to Ypsilanti for the EMU Open on Saturday.

Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI/Okemos) was one of the top Titans on the day taking third in the shot put with a toss of 12.57m/41'3" as well as fourth in the weight with a heave of 15.13m/49'7.75". Senior
Danielle Poulin (Sterling Heights, MI/Warren Cousino) also turned in a fine outing in the shot put finishing fifth with a throw of 12.00m/39'4.5".

Ashley Schinske (Paw Paw, MI/Paw Paw) was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.93m/16'2", while taking 10th in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.87, just one-hundredth of a second off her personal record.

Chanteenel McClendon (Maple Heights, OH/Maple Heights) placed seventh in the 800-meters with a posted time of 2:24.69, while junior
Chantel Henry (Tecumseh, ON/St. Anne's) earned a tie for third in the high jump with a 1.53m/5'0.25" mark.
Two freshmen also turned in impressive performances as
Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA/Burrell) was fifth in the long jump at 5.00m/16'5".
Monica Betker (Mecosta, MI/Chippewa Hills) claimed sixth in the pole vault with a 2.59m/8'6" mark.
“Overall, it was good to get back on the track and see where we stand following the holiday break,” said head coach
Guy Murray. “We competed in some off events and matched up the distance medley relays as a low-key start to the season.”
Detroit will next compete on Friday, Jan. 16 when the Titans square off in a dual against Horizon League rival Valparaiso in Allendale, MI.
