Final Results

The Detroit Titans women's tennis team captured two main draw titles as it completed its fall season today at the IPFW Invitational at the Wildwood Raquet Club in Fort Wayne, IN.

One Titan won her main draw singles final in sophomore Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom (Gothenburg, Sweden/Katrinelunds Gymnasiet) as she defeated Ashton Schwerin (UE) by scores of 6-3, 6-3 in Flight 3 Singles. In addition, the Detroit duo of sophomore Amanda Cornwell (Waterford, MI / Kettering) and freshman Carolina Salas Espinosa (Monterrey, Mexico) won their main draw final in Flight 2 Doubles by a score of 8-2 against Sammi Schoen and Brittany Skemp of Horizon League member Milwaukee.

“I used the fall campaign to get an idea of what we, as a team, as well as myself being a first-year head coach, need to improve on for the upcoming regular season,” said Detroit head coach Sam Poole.

In Flight 2, senior Svetlana Flankova (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary 21) won the Back Draw final against Jennifer Bradfield (Green Bay) by a score of 6-3, 6-1, while freshman teammate Victoria Baca (Quito, Ecuador) also won the Back Draw final in Flight 6 by a score of 6-0, 6-1 against Jackie Garrett (WSU).

The Titans will return to action for its regular season in January.
