Day Two of the Michigan Intercollegiate saw several of the Titan women turn in solid performances in a tough track and field meet. The event was held at Eastern Michigan.
As a team, the Titans took sixth place in the meet with nine points, but coach Guy Murray came home satisfied knowing his team took on some major competition.
“This is as challenging a meet as we face and we did okay,” Murray said. “We just missed out on a couple of good opportunities.”
Two Titans, in particular, stood out, according to Murray. Freshman Susan Kalkstein (New Kensington, PA/Burrell) took seventh place in the triple jump with a personal best distance of 10.69m/35'1", while senior Brittany Horne (Okemos, MI/Okemos) captured a pair of fifth-place finishes in the shot put (12.83m/42'1.25") and weight throw (15.19m/49'10").
“Brittany has been steady performer and she's in position to have a good February,” Murray said. “That was a nice jump for Susan, and it's good to have her giving us a good threat in the triple jump.”
Senior Tiffany James (Westland, MI / Wayne Memorial) also gave UDM a good showing in the sprints, taking seventh place in the 60 meters (7.93) and eighth in the 200 (26.10). The distance medley relay team of Chanteenel McClendon (Maple Heights, OH/Maple Heights), Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH/Zanesville), Jennifer DeFauw (Harper Woods, MI/Grosse Pointe North) and Terricita Thomas (Maple Heights, OH/Maple Heights) took fourth place in a clocking of 13:05.62.
