Women's Track Preps For HL Meet With Solid Showing In Ann Arbor

Complete Results

In its final start prior to next week's Horizon League Indoor Championships, the women's track and field team tuned up at Michigan's Silvertson Invitational on Saturday with numerous positive results

On the day, Detroit recorded no less than three Top Five individual performances, led by freshman Susan Kalkstein's (New Kensington, PA / Burrell) second-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 10.79m/35'5". The leap marked Kalkstein's best ever indoors, and is the fourth-best in Titan annals.

“Susan has had a good year,” coach Guy Murray noted, “and is in position for a good Horizon League meet.”

Junior Megan Miller (Zanesville, OH / Zanesville) took fourth place in the 400 meters with a clocking of 60.29, while senior Ashley Schinske (Paw Paw, MI / Paw Paw)grabbed fifth in the long jump (4.88m/16'0.25"). Freshman Amanda Campbell (Lockport, NY / Lockport) wasn't too far behind Schinske, taking eighth place with her collegiate-best jump of 4.47m/14'8". Schinske also claimed the eighth spot in the 60 meter hurdles (9.77).

Two other Titans recorded a pair of Top 10 finishes at the meet. Junior Chantel Henry (Tecumseh, ON / St. Anne's) was ninth in the high jump (1.48m/4'10.25") and 10th in the 60 meter hurdles (9.95). Senior Danielle Poulin (Sterling Heights, MI / Warren Cousino) was seventh in the shot put (12.64m/41'5.75") and 10th in the weight throw (14.65m/48'0.75").

“We had a good tune-up and found out some things we needed to know for next week,” coach Murray noted. “We have a good group that covers the bases and gives us lots of opportunities to make good things happen next week. We just need to take advantage of those opportunities.”
