Women's Tennis Battles Hard, But Falls At Michigan State

Box Score

Michigan
State lived up to its women's tennis national ranking Friday night, handing UDM a 6-1 setback in East Lansing despite some spirited showings by the Titans.

The 2-3 Spartans, rated 66th this week, won all three doubles matches to secure the first point of the evening, then picked up five singles victories to win the overall decision.

Sophomore Erin Weldon got Detroit (1-3) on the board as she scored a solid 6-2, 6-1 victory over junior Christine Milliken at No. 6 singles. Senior Annie Moore and freshman Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom each went three sets – at Number 1 and 4 singles, respectively – before falling to their MSU opponents.

UDM stays on the road and will invade No. 54 Western Michigan for a Saturday match at the West Hills Tennis Club in Kalamazoo. Start time is 6:00.
