The Titan women's tennis team ran into a buzzsaw in the form of 54th-ranked Western Michigan on Saturday evening as the Broncos got past UDM, 7-0, in Kalamazoo.
Having defeated Big Ten member Purdue just one day earlier, Western (6-3) got off to a quick start in the match, winning the doubles point even though the Titans battled hard. UDM's No. 2 pair of Svetlana Flankova and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrong extended their Bronco opponents to 8-5, while UDM's top duo of seniors Annie Moore and Zeljka Minic pushed their match to 8-4.
Minic also went down fighting in No. 2 singles, taking Western junior Emily Dudzik the distance before falling, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9).
Detroit, now 1-4 in dual match play, returns to the courts on Friday night when it entertains Chicago State in a men's-women's doubleheader at Franklin Athletic Club.
