The Titan women's tennis team won its fourth straight match Monday, edging Barry University, 4-3, in Miami.
UDM jumped out to a 1-0 lead by winning two of three doubles matches. Erin Weldon and Aneta Maricevic, the Titans' No. 3 tandem, raced out to an easy victory, and the No. 2 pair – Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom and Svetlana Flankova – hung on for a win to clinch the doubles point.
Monday marked the fourth match in a row where Detroit claimed a doubles point, and it would prove to be the difference, as the Buccaneers and Titans split the singles matches, resulting in the eventual final margin of 4-3.
Barry, ranked 20th in Division II, won the No. 1, 2, and 3 matches, with two of those contests going the three-set distance. Detroit grinded out singles triumphs at 4, 5 and 6 for the overall win. Flankova, Sjoberg-Sundstrom and Weldon recorded the victories.
Armed with wins over Duquesne and Barry, the Titans will go for Florida trifecta Tuesday when they face off against Nova Southeastern at 1 p.m. NSU is ranked 11th in D-II.
