Women's Tennis Winning Streak Now Seven

Box Score

The UDM women's tennis machine kept rolling along Friday, claiming its seventh straight win with a 5-2 triumph this afternoon at Youngstown State.

That puts the Titans' record at 9-5 overall, and a perfect 3-0 in Horizon League play. The victory also added to the longest winning streak in the history of the program.

Detroit has claimed the critical doubles point in each of its last seven matches, this time as the pairs of Annie Moore and Zeljka Minic (at No. 1) and Aneta Maricevic and Erin Weldon (No. 3) each scored decisive victories.

Detroit advanced to a 2-0 lead in the match as Weldon prevailed at No. 6 singles before YSU (4-9, 1-2 HL) got on the board with a win at No. 3. Minic then advanced UDM's edge to 3-1 with straight-set win at No. 2. Needing one more point to secure overall match, Detroit was forced to three sets at No. 1 and No. 5, but Moore and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom, respectively, both prevailed to secure the team victory.

“This was a great team win against a team that fought hard,” Minic said. “We started well in doubles and hung in there in singles. We are very excited about having a week to work hard and improve on the court which will take us to next Friday, when we hope to get our eighth straight victory against Butler."
