For the second dual match in a row, the UDM women's tennis team made a clean sweep of its opposition, on Tuesday by way of a 7-0 home victory over Oakland on Senior Day.
Four Titan seniors,
Kelly Davis (South Lyon, MI/Farmington),
Aneta Maricevic (Hamilton, ONT/Glendale Secondary),
Zeljka Minic (Zagreb, Croatia/Sport)and
Annie Moore (St.Clair, MI/St.Clair), were honored in a pre-match ceremony .
Davis entered her senior season with 33 singles victories and 33 doubles victories. After posting eight singles wins during the fall 2008 season, she moved into ninth place on the all-time career list for singles wins. Maricevic, a second team All-Horizon League performer as a junior, is currently third in Titan history with 62 career singles triumphs
Minic transferred to UDM as a junior and quickly made an impact tying a school record with 26 singles victories, while being named first team All-Horizon League, while Moore, became the first player in Horizon League history to be voted both Newcomer of the Year and Player of the Year in the same season. Moore has continued to impress and has been tabbed a first team All-League performer in her three season and tops the UDM record books with 133 career wins.
Moore, Minic and Maricevic would go on to lead the way for Detroit with singles wins at the top three positions.
UDM also won at #4, #5, and #6 singles, to go along with their sweep of the three doubles contests.
It was the squad's final tune up before a huge face off against 10-time defending league champion UIC. The Titans and Flames are set to meet this Saturday in the Windy City.
