Men’s Tennis Season Comes To An End At The HL Tournament

Box Score

The University of Detroit Mercy men's tennis team saw its inaugural season come to an end on Saturday as the Titans fell to Valparaiso, 4-1, in the consolation bracket of the Horizon League Tournament.

After dropping two matches to lose the doubles point, the Titans got on the board as 2009 HL Player of the Year junior Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) won his match at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3. With the victory, Necajevs finished the season at 25-4 in singles with a perfect 7-0 mark in league play, which does not include the tournament victory over Valpo's Alex Lau.

Detroit would battle hard, but would eventually fall at No. 3, 4 and 6 singles to lose the match.

The Titans finished the season at 5-13, 1-6 in the conference, but with five freshmen on the roster and the return of Necajevs and junior Patrick Troy, Detroit's success will only rise as the program returns to championship status.
