Toledo, Ohio (9/28/18) – The University of Detroit Mercy used a strong doubles performance to power a solid showing on day one of the Toledo Rocket Invite Friday afternoon.
The Titans kicked off the two-day tournament with a 3-1 record in doubles and an even 2-2 mark in singles from just over the Ohio state line.
Luka Soskic and
Yevhen Sirous picked up a strong 6-1, 6-4 win over Jack Santilli and William Malm of rival Cleveland State, while
Alvaro Arce Lopez-Sanchez and
Adam Zychowicz defeated Joey Matthews and Graham Conron of Duquesne, 7-5 and 6-4.
Dino Bonetta and
Gvidas Motuzas split a pair of doubles matches, defeating a pair from Western Michigan, 7-6 and 6-1, while falling to Duquesne in a tight 6-4, 7-6 decision.
In singles, Soskic and Sirous picked up a pair of straight-set wins against Duquesne to highlight the Titan effort.
Detroit Mercy returns to the court on Saturday for day two of the Rocket Invite.
