Box Score
The ninth-seeded Detroit Titans softball team fell 8-0 to fourth seed Loyola in first-round action at the 2009 Horizon League Championship Thursday afternoon at Legends Field in Pendleton, Ind.
Loyola's (27-22) offense was led by freshman Lauren Arceneaux, who went 3-for-3 with a home run and two runs, followed by sophomore Jenna Grim and junior Amy Solava, who each went 2-for-3 with a home run and combined three RBI.
Detroit found itself down early as Loyola got three solo home runs from Arceneaux, Grim and Amy Solava in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Loyola added another run off a UDM throwing error to move ahead 4-0.
UDM mounted a threat in the top of the fourth inning as Sinclair reached on a single and was moved over to second on a sacrifice bunt by junior Courtney Gill (Surrey, B.C./Earl Marriott). After a single from Sclater to get runners at first and third with two outs, junior Jessica Liebner (Ortonville, MI/Brandon) hit the ball hard to deep right field, but Bridgett Lally was able to track it down running towards the wall to make the catch and end the inning.
The Ramblers took a commanding 8-0 lead in the bottom half, adding four runs on five hits aided by two costly Titan fielding errors.
Detroit will play seventh-seed Green Bay in an elimination game on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
