Just as was the case a year ago, the final leader board at the 2009 Toronto Star Amateur Championship had a definite Titan flavor as two Detroit men's golfers,
David Byrne and
Britt Pronk, cracked the Top 10.
The tournament ended Friday at St. George's Golf & Country Club after the first two rounds of the tournament were staged at Mississaugua G&CC.
Byrne, who won the Ontario Match Play Championship earlier this summer and claimed ninth place at the Ontario Amateur last week, closed the tournament with a share of fourth place thanks to a 74-72-76-72-294 card. Pronk had the field's second-best score of the final day and ended up a stroke behind Byrne, in sixth, with a 72-73-81-69-295 finish.
A third Titan made the cut and showed well too, as defending tournament champion Jeff Clarridge came home in a 14th-place tie. He posted a 72-77-76-74-299 worksheet for the week, much of which was played in windy and rainy conditions.
