Necajevs Wins Flight A Singles At Michigan State

Complete Titan Results At Frank Beeman Invitational

For the second consecutive week, and the fifth time in two years, senior Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) won the top singles flight as Detroit closed the Frank Beeman Invitational on Sunday at Michigan State.

Necajevs moved to 7-0 on the season with another straight-set sweep ousting Michigan State's Denis Bogatov, 6-3, 6-3, in the Flight A championship. The Titans' top netter, who beat two Spartans on the weekend, has now won 14 straight matches dating back to last season and is 32-4 since arriving in the Motor City.

“The thing that is impressive the most is that he is always looking to improve,” said head coach Grant Asher. “He works so hard and even though he is our top individual player, he is also a leader and a great team player, someone all of our young players can really learn from.”

Necajevs nearly came up with another title as he and freshman Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale Secondary) fell to Sven Burus and Robbie McCallum of Toledo in the Flight A doubles championship, 8-5.

Detroit will next play in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, held at the University of Michigan from Oct. 15-19.
