Day 3 Final Results

Detroit had representation in one doubles match and one singles match in the third and final day of competition of the Spartan Invitational at the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts on the campus of Michigan State.

Junior netter Erin Weldon (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan) competed in the Blue Draw Backdraw Finals and defeated Charlotte Gibbons of Cleveland State by a score of 6-0, 6-3. Yesterday, Weldon came up with two big straight-set sweeps to advance into the finals of her respective bracket. She downed Christine Milliken of Michigan State, 6-3, 6-2, and then cruised by Miami's (Ohio) Jessica Parr, 6-0, 6-1.

In the Green Draw Doubles Backdraw Finals, senior Svetlana Flankova (Riga, Latvia/Riga Secondary 21) and sophomore Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom (Gothenburg, Sweden/Katrinelunds Gymnasiet) fell to Anastasia Dracheva and Riekie Honiball of Miami (OH) by a score of 8-5. On Saturday, the Titan duo posted two wins over conference foes from Cleveland State, defeating Sanda Bjelan and Denisa Muntean, 8-2, and then earned a thrilling 9-8 (2) triumph against Catrine Bjerrehus and Maria Lazaris.

The Titans will wrap up its fall slate next weekend at the IPFW Fall Invitational in Fort Wayne, IN.
