Men’s Tennis Falls To Duquesne

The Detroit Titans men's tennis team opened up the 2010 spring season with a 6-1 loss to Duquesne on Friday evening at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield. 

The Titans were playing shorthanded as they were without the services of freshmen Russ Kovar, Alex Latosinsky and Cesar Escobar Serrano

Senior Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) posted the only Titan triumph on the night with a 6-0, 7-5 score over Jeremy McClelland at No. 1 singles. The win was his 11th consecutive singles victory in dual matches dating back to last season. 

Senior Patrick Troy (Beverly Hills, MI/Brother Rice) nearly got the Titans another win, falling to Mikhael Rasner in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 10-8, while freshman Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale Secondary) battled Mark Maciuch to a 6-4, 7-5 decision. 

The red, white and blue will return to action next Friday when the Titans host IPFW at 7:00 p.m., at the Franklin Athletic Club.
