Titans Tangle With No. 4 Ohio State

Box Score

Playing its highest profile opponent since returning to varsity status last season, the Detroit men's tennis team made the trip to Columbus, Ohio, where the Titans dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 4 Ohio State on Thursday evening.

UDM (6-6) had an early lead at No. 1 doubles, but dropped the match at two and three to fall behind 1-0.
With Ohio State (14-1) featuring three top 100 players, the Buckeyes won all six singles matches, with the stiffest Titan competition coming at No. 1, 2 and 6. Freshman Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale Secondary) was at No. 6 and was upended 6-3, 6-2, while seniors Pjotrs Necajevs (Riga, Latvia/Herdera Vidusskola) was taken out by a score of 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 and Patrick Troy (Beverly Hills, MI/Brother Rice) was defeated in the second position, 6-4, 6-0.

The Titans will now look to build on the experience they got in playing one of the top programs in the country as Detroit opens up conference play tomorrow at Wright State. Match time is slated for 6:30 p.m., at the South Regency Tennis Center.
