Following a slow start, the UDM men's golfers handled high winds and turned it on in Friday's afternoon round to move into second place at the end of 36 holes at their own Detroit Titans Invitational.
After opening the tournament, being contested at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland, with a 297, the Titans rallied with the best score of the second round by posting a 5-over 293. That pushed them past Youngstown State, Oakland and Dayton into second as they trail only Horizon League rival Green Bay. The Titans have a 590 total for two rounds while the Phoenix are 10 ahead at 580.
Junior Jeff Clarridge (Barrie, ON/Bear Creek) leads the Titans, and stands third overall on the individual leader board, with a 72-73-145 score card. Freshman teammate Simon Reyers (Kingston, ON/Holy Cross) is right behind in a fifth-place tie (75-72-147). Reyers' closing 72 matched the best score of the day's second 18 holes.
The 14 competing teams will play a closing 18 holes on Saturday. SPECTATOR NOTE: The scheduled 8:30 shotgun start on Saturday has been moved back to 9:00 a.m.
