Hoosier Invitational Full Results
The Detroit men's tennis team continued its fall progress as the Titans pulled out three wins in the closing day of the Hoosier Invitational on Sunday.
“I think we took a couple of good steps forward,” said head coach
Grant Asher. “We are learning how to compete and we are getting better mentally which is what I am looking for.”
Sophomores
Pablo Nunez (San Jose, Costa Rica/Educacion Abierta) and
Larry Brown came up with singles victories, while junior
David Stabley (Shelby Township, MI/Eisenhower) and sophomore
Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale Secondary) tallied one in the doubles column.
Nunez ended his Flight 1 bracket with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Cleveland State's Matt Kuelker. On the weekend, the Titan newcomer collected two wins in singles play.
Brown garnered the other individual win in Flight 4 as he defeated IPFW's Tim Saltys, 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.
The Cheung-Stabley tandem had their second victory of the weekend with an 8-6 score over Toledo's Bobby Brooks and Terence Weigand.
Besides Nunez, Cheung and sophomore
Alex Latosinsky (Sarnia, ON/St. Christopher's) posted two singles wins, while Nunez and Latosinsky had a pair in the doubles spot.
“There were a few Horizon League schools and teams from our region here so we got a good chance to see our competition and pick up some wins. In the next few weeks, I really want to focus on doubles and our conditioning before we head back to another tournament that will feature some big schools,” added Asher.
The Titans will have a few weeks off before their next competition at the Stan Drobac Invitational at Michigan State on Oct. 8.
