FORT WAYNE, IND - Detroit completed the sweep of this weekend's three-game road trip with a 6-1 victory over Chicago State on Sunday.
The Titans captured a pair of 6-1 victories over IUPUI and IPFW on Friday and Saturday respectively, and completed the busy weekend today with a third win in three days to improve to 4-5 on the dual season. Detroit has now won four of its last five outings.
In doubles against Chicago State, sophomore's
Cesar Escobar Serrano (Merliot, El Salvador/Education) and
Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale) won their sixth straight match together with an 8-1 victory at No. 2.
The third doubles point was won by the Titans by default as Chicago State had a shorthanded roster with four players.
In singles, Detroit posted three out of four wins in matches played.
Cheung played at No. 2 winning in straight sets while sophomore
Pablo Nunez San Jose, Costa Rica/Educacion Abierta) also won his match in straight sets playing in the No. 3 spot. At No. 4, sophomore
Larry Brown (Shelby Township, Eisenhower) earned his first win of the dual season winning 6-3, 2-6, and 6-3.
Detroit will head to Michigan State this Saturday for a match against the Spartans at 10:00 a.m. After that, the Titans will return home to host Wright State and Butler on March 18 and 19.
