EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Detroit Titan men's tennis team had its three-match winning streak halted Saturday, falling 7-0 at the hands of 49th-ranked Michigan State.
The duo of sophomore's
Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale) and
Cesar Escobar Serrano (Merliot, El Salvador/Education) teamed to grab at victory at No. 3 doubles, besting MSU's Denis Bogatov and Christian Roehmer, 8-7 (6) for the lone Titan win in doubles play in the seventh straight win for the pairing.
In singles action, junior
Nick Tolomei (Rochester, MI/Adams) won the opening set, 7-5, but Bogatov rallied for 6-3 and 10-3 wins in the following sets to take the win at top singles. At No. 6,
David Stabley (Shelby Township, MI/Eisenhower) also recorded a win in the first set, 6-3, before Ryan Richmond posted 6-2 and 10-5 scores to snag the victory.
Detroit is now 4-5 on the dual season and will break nearly three weeks from competition before opening Horizon League play on Mar. 18. The Titans host Wright State in Southfield, Mich. at 7:00 p.m., followed by Butler the next night at 6:00 p.m.
