SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Detroit Titan men's tennis squad hosted the Wright State Raiders Friday evening to begin the 2011 Horizon League schedule as Titan sophomore's
Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale) and
Cesar Escobar Serrano (Merliot, El Salvador/Education) earned their eighth straight doubles victory together.
The Raiders came to Southfield and walked away with a 5-2 win. Detroit now sits at 4-7 overall and 0-1 in the Horizon League.
The Titans started the night with a pair of victories in doubles as Cheung and Serrano teamed up for their eighth straight win. Serrano and Cheung won 9-7 coming back from being down 5-4 in the No. 2 spot. They now have an 8-3 record having been paired in every match in the dual season.
The other Titan victory in doubles came from junior's
Nick Tolomei (Rochester, MI/Adams) and
David Stabley (Shelby Township, MI/Eisenhower) as they topped Wright State's No. 3 pair, 8-6.
In singles, the Titans captured another point but it came at the end of the night as sophomore
Alex Latosinsky (Sarnia, ON/St. Christopher's) was the last match to be decided. He was in a back-and-forth battle with freshman Hayden Joblin but Latosinsky pushed through with scores of 6-3, 7-6 (7-5 in the tiebreaker) and the final point of the night for the Titans.
Detroit will continue Horizon League action Saturday at the Franklin Racquet Club again hosting a pair of doubleheaders, this time welcoming Butler. The men will play first at 6:00 p.m, followed by the women at 7:30 p.m.
