MICHIGAN CITY, Ind.-- A pair of three-set wins helped Detroit garner five singles points en route to a 6-1 win over Valparaiso (5-8, 0-2) Saturday night at the Northwest Athletic Club.
Nick Tolomei and
Chris Cheung each recovered from losing their respective second set to record wins in the third and deciding set.
The Titans (5-9, 1-3 Horizon) won the top two doubles pairings and the top five singles matches in the victory.
Alex Latosinsky teamed with
Pablo Nunez to grab an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Latosinsky later won at top singles, 7-6 (6), 6-2. Nunez, meanwhile, was a 6-3, 6-2 winner in the No. 5 spot. Cheung and
Cesar Serrano posted an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles and both also were victorious in singles play. Cheung outlasted his No. 3 opponent, 6-1, 6-7 (2), 6-3. Serrano won with relative ease, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4.
The Titans will head to Pittsburgh, Pa. to battle Temple and Duquesne on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
