Pair of Singles Wins Not Enough for Men's Tennis

Final Match Results

MILWAUKEE -- Sophomores Alex Latosinsky (Sarnia, ON/St. Christopher's) and Pablo Nunez (San Jose, Costa Rica/Educacion Abierta) both won their matches in singles against Horizon League rival Green Bay, but the Phoenix (12-5, 6-1 Horizon League) took a 5-2 win in the match-up held at Marquette University.

The Titans (6-11, 1-4 Horizon League) were led by the two sophomores who each collected a win on Friday night. Latosinsky played in the No. 1 singles spot and earned a comeback win over sophomore Erik Finkenbrink. In his first set, Latosinsky fell 7-6 (7-1) but roared back with 6-2 and 6-3 in the final two sets to take the point.

Nunez held strong at the No. 4 spot as he defeated Green Bay sophomore Christoph Hopfe in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

Detroit also had a pair of three-set matches in singles as Cesar Escobar Serrano (Merliot, El Salvador/Education) and Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale) both won their opening sets, but in the second two frames could not produce the same result.

The Titans will stay in Milwaukee to face Marquette Saturday with the contest set to begin at 1:00 p.m. (EST)
