Michigan State Men's Tennis Fall Tournament Wraps Up Sunday

FINAL RESULTS

EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The first men's tennis fall tournament of the season came to a close on Sunday as Michigan State University served as host.

In Flight A doubles, junior's Pablo Nunez and Cesar Escobar Serrano defeated Joe West and Aidan Koross of Dayton 8-2 and then went on to capture a second win 8-3 over Thomas Gans and Pat O'Neill from IUPUI finishing with a 2-2 record.

Junior's Alex Latosinsky and Mike Basha won one of three head-to-head matches taking down Melvin Joseph and Aman Gill from Wayne State.

In Flight B doubles, freshman Jay Joshi and senior Nick Tolomei defeated the Youngstown State pair of Zeeshan Ismail and Max Schmerin 8-2 before the MSU combination of Ronnie Hulewicz and Will Davis topped the Titan duo 8-4. The next two matches also resulted in wins as they took down Benton Benalcazar and Austin Wiegand of Dayton 8-4 and then Mike Koscielski and Colin Bernier, also from Dayton, 8-1.

In Green Flight singles, senior David Streeter won his first match recording his lone victory of the day over IUPUI's Mojsejev 6-3, 7-5.

Alex Latosinsky went 1-3 on the day with the win coming in his second match in a tiebreaker scoring a 6-2, 5-7, 10-1 defeat over Felipe Rosa of YSU.

In Spartan Flight singles, Mike Basha won 6-3, 7-5 over Derek Romer of IPFW and sandwiched a loss between another win as he downed Christian Roehmer of MSU 7-5, 2-6 (10-7). Basha also won his last match of the day over Z. Ismail of YSU to finish 3-1 in the tournament.

Junior Chris Cheung fell in his opening match to Z. Ismail of YSU but then won his next three matches. He took down Deon Shafer of IUPUI 6-3, 6-2 and then Eduardo Sztrajtman of IPFW 6-2, 5-7, 10-2 and his last match against Ryan Richmond of MSU had scores of 7-6 (8), 6-3.

Nick Tolomei won two singles matches downing Sztrajtman of IPFW in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 and also Wiegand of Dayton in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. After a loss in his next contest, Tolomei ended a dominating performance not allowing a point in a 6-0, 6-0 decision over Joel Modesitt of IUPUI.

In State Flight singles, Jay Joshi won 6-4, 6-1 over Pat O'Neill of IUPUI and then dropped a tight match in the tiebreaker, 7-5, 2-6 (11-9) to Bernier of Dayton. Joshi then took down Doug Zade of MSU before his final victory on Sunday in a 6-1, 6-0 over Joseph of Wayne State.

Freshman David Foreman recorded one win in his first match over Joseph of Wayne State 0-6, 6-3 (13-11) and senior David Stabley also posted a defeat with 7-6, 6-0 (7-0) scores over Benalcazar of Dayton.

In the final singles flight, White, Cesar Escobar Serrano won matches over Junya Saruta of IPFW, Richard Robbie of Duquesne and Dawoud Kabli of YSU.

Detroit's next fall tournament will again be at Michigan State on the weekend of Sept. 30.
