MATCH RESULTS
CHICAGO -- In the second contest of the 2012 dual-match season, the Titans travelled to Illinois to face No. 68 ranked DePaul and the Blue Demons (2-0) secured a 7-0 defeat over Detroit (0-2).
In the doubles portion of the night, an 8-0 DePaul win at the No. 1 spot was the lone competition out of reach. Detroit's No. 2 combination of
Jay Joshi and
David Stabley fell in a close two point match, 8-6, and
Cesar Escobar Serrano and
Chris Cheung forced a tiebreaker but the Blue Demons claimed the doubles point with a final 9-8 (8-6) win.
In singles play, the Titans were swept for the remaining six points. At No. 3 singles,
David Streeter won an opening set 7-5 but a 6-1 upset in the second stanza led to a 10-point match tiebreaker. Streeter would end up on the wrong end of a 10-7 decision. In the No. 5 spot, Serrano fell in the first set but came back with a 6-3 win in the second and nearly pulled out the victory. A narrow 12-10 loss was the result as the Titans fell by the 7-0 margin.
The Titans will come home before heading back to Illinois for a match on Fri. Jan. 20 at the University of Illinois set for 3:00 p.m.
