Day One Results
KETTERING, Ohio (10/22/2012) -- Led by freshman
Wil Wittmann's season-best 70, the UDM men's golf team is in contention for a title after the first round of the Dayton Fall Invitational.
The two-round event is being played at the 7055-yard, Par 71 South Course at the NCR Country Club.
Detroit totaled a 303 and is just eight shots behind IPFW (295) and Western Kentucky. Host Dayton sits in third with a 296, while Valparaiso (299), Oakland (301), Loyola (301) and Ohio (302) are all in striking distance of the Titans.
Wittmann's 1-under 70 – which was a shot better than his previous best of 71 in the first round of the Cleveland State Invitational - was the result of a steady day on the links that saw him sink 13 pars, tied for the tournament best. He is tied for second and will open the final round just three strokes behind Oakland's Nick Cunningham.
Junior
Brendan Leonard is tied for 31st after carding a 76, which included one of the eight eagles tallied in the round. He also played the Par 5's to a 2-under, 4.33 average, the second best mark in the field.
