SOUTH BEND, Ind. (12/7/2012) -- Charles Anthony had a pair of first place finishes on Friday evening as the University of Detroit Mercy men's indoor track and field season started at Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
Anthony came up big in the 200m dash with a first place finish running at 22.56 tying his own personal career best in the event.
The 200m was Anthony's second first place finish of the competition as he also finished atop the leaderboard in the 60m dash running it in 7.08. Ja'Quan Patterson was also in the 60m and placed fifth at 7.21 and set a new personal best.
Patterson also had a great showing in the long jump coming in second with a distance of 6.94m. Patterson went on to the triple jump and ended up tying all-time Titan great Paul Caraballo for the No. 2 all-time Titan mark as Patterson finished second setting a new personal best at 14.30m.
In the 60m hurdles,
Steven Ivanics and
Vince Lefler were both in the top three as Ivanics ran 8.32 for a personal record and a second place finish. The time also put him in the fifth spot on the all-time Titan list in the 60m hurdles. Lefler placed third just missing a new personal best in the event as he was .01 off the mark with a finish of 8.39. Lefler was also fourth in the 500m run at 1:06.93 after taking first place in the indoor event at Notre Dame last year.
In the 5000m,
Bob Radlich hustled into the seventh-best all-time Titan mark with a run of 15:16.65 as he also set a new career mark. In that same race,
Ryan Hofsess earned a new PR with a time of 15:53.88.
The 4x400m relay saw the Titan team earn a fourth place finish as Lefler,
Anthony Donald,
Colton Wirgau, and
Joe Raffin posted a time of 3:26.92.
In the high jump,
Jeffrey Senecal (1.86m) was sixth in the high jump.
The shot put competition saw
Jeff Sherman place fourth with a 14.07m distance as he set a new indoor PR. Also in the throws,
Jake Millyard made his collegiate debut with a weight throw of 13.58m and a shot put launching of 11.53m.
Two other debuts for new Titans came in the 400m as Wirgau (51.27) and
Mitch Latray (52.30) were in their first competition. Raffin was the top Titan in that event with a time of 50.51.
The next event for the men's indoor track and field team will be on Jan. 11 as the Titans will head to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to compete in the Central Michigan Invitational.
