MATCH RESULTS
SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Detroit welcomed the No. 6 ranked team in the Midwest Region (Division II) and scored a 6-1 victory capturing two of three doubles matches and five of six singles contests. It was the first match of three in three straight days for the Titans.
Doubles kicked off the evening and the Detroit No. 2 pairing of
Mike Basha (Fort Gratiot, MI/Port Huron Northern) and
Chris Cheung (Mississauga, ON/Erindale) and the No. 3 duo of
David Stabley (Shelby Twp., MI/Eisenhower) and
Pablo Nunez (San Jose, Costa Rica/Educacion Abierta) both collected victories. Basha and Cheung won 8-5 while Stabley and Nunez powered to an 8-6 defeat.
In singles, Detroit took five of six with four of them straight-set wins.
Alex Latosinsky (Sarnia, ON/St. Christopher's) played in the No. 1 spot and came out on top, 6-4, 6-0. Basha needed a second set tiebreaker to win at no. 3. The four, five and six positions for Detroit were filled by Nunez,
Cesar Escobar Serrano (Merliot, El Salvador/Education) and Cheung respectively and all cruised to victories. Nunez and Serrano both won with scores of 6-1, 6-2 and Cheung was victorious, 6-3, 6-4.
Nunez, Serrano and Basha all share the team lead with three singles victories on the young season.
The Titans will now move on to play at Toledo Friday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
