DETROIT -- The Titans will be heading south over Spring Break this year for three matches as the schedule will take the team to Tennessee and Kentucky. The first match will be Saturday at Lipscomb in Nashville, TN for a match at 1:00 p.m. Detroit will also play at Western Kentucky Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and will wrap up the trip Tuesday at Lindsey Wilson (Columbia, KY) with a match set for 1:00 p.m.
The Titans were last in action on Feb. 12 with a 5-2 win at Dayton. That victory saw wins in four singles matches and two in doubles.
Cesar Escobar Serrano leads the team with 10 overall singles wins on the year including a 6-4 mark in dual matches. The doubles pairing of
Mike Basha and
Chris Cheung have a 4-1 doubles record when paired together and have been together the last four matches.
Lipscomb is 1-3 overall in dual matches having last played Feb. 4 falling in a 6-1 decision at Chattanooga (TN). The team won its single match in a home victory against Detroit's Sunday opponent in Western Kentucky scoring a 6-1 defeat. The Bison also fell in matches at Georgia State, 6-1, and at Samford in Birmingham, AL by a 4-3 decision.
Western Kentucky is 0-4 in dual matches thus far in 2012 as they began the season with the 6-1 loss at Lipscomb. The Hilltoppers dropped a pair of 7-0 decisions at Austin Peay and then a home match to Lindsey Wilson. The last action for WKU was on Feb. 25 with a 5-2 loss at Murray State. The Hilltoppers are set to host SIU-Edwardsville on Friday evening prior to the match-up with Detroit.
Lindsey Wilson, of the NAIA, comes in on a five-match win streak with wins over Georgetown College, Tennessee Wesleyan, University of Pikesville, Asbury College and Western Kentucky during the stretch. Overall the team is 6-3 and will be in play Friday evening at Indiana University Southeast in New Albany, IN before matching up with the Titans on Tuesday.
Detroit will return home after this weekend's trip and host a pair of home matches as Horizon League play will get underway. The Titans will host Cleveland State on March 23and then Youngstown State on March 25 at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.
