Mike Basha's three-set win at No. 4 singles sealed a 4-3 win over host Butler Saturday afternoon in Horizon League men's tennis action. With the match all square at 3-apiece, Basha recorded a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win to pull out his match and lead the Titans to victory.
The win came after BU (3-14, 2-1 HL) took two of the three doubles matches to lead 1-0 in the team scoring. The Titan team of
Pablo Nunez and
Jay Joshi registered an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles for Detroit.
Nunez then went on to cruise to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to square the match. Detroit (6-11, 1-2) would win each of the bottom four positions in singles play to garner the necessary team points for the victory.
Cesar Escobar Serrano (6-3, 6-3) and
David Streeter (6-1, 6-3) each posted straight-set wins in their singles matches at No. 3 and 6, respectively. Basha had to outlast Butler's Zach Ervin to give Detroit its first league win of the season.
The Titans travel to Dayton, Ohio Sunday to battle Wright State. Match time is slated for 2:00 p.m.
