Match Results

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Titans (5-8) defeated the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers (0-5) Sunday on the strength of wins in four singles matches and two of three doubles contests. It was the second of three match-ups for Detroit on the team's Spring Break trip in Tennessee and Kentucky.

Pablo Nunez and Mike Basha both came away with a pair of wins taking each of their singles match-ups and then also being part of doubles victories.

Detroit started by capturing two of the three wins in the doubles portion of the match. Basha and Chris Cheung played in the No. 1 spot and won their third straight match together with an 8-6 decision. It was their sixth win in their last seven contests with their last six decisions coming at the No. 1 spot. Freshman Jay Joshi combined with Nunez at No. 3 doubles and came away with an 8-5 win for the other doubles win.

The singles matches then clinched the team win as Detroit earned its fifth dual-match victory this year.

Alex Latosinsky needed a tiebreaker in the second set to win in the No. 2 position, 6-3, 7-6 (4). Cesar Escobar Serrano continued his hot streak winning his third straight match, and eight of his last nine, with scores of 7-6 (5), 7-5 at No. 3. Basha took his second win of the night with a straight set match victory, 6-3, 6-4 in the No. 4 hole and the other Titan point came from Nunez who came out on top, 6-4, 6-3.

Detroit will have one more contest on Tuesday vs. Lindsey Wilson out of Columbia, KY before returning home for the remainder of Spring Break. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
