DETROIT -- The men's tennis team will close the 2012 home portion of its schedule this weekend with a pair of home matches. Friday will see the Titans host Chicago State at the Huntington Woods Recreation Center at 3pm. On Saturday, Detroit will welcome IUPUI on senior day at the Titan Tennis Complex at 3pm.

In case of bad weather on Saturday, that contest will move indoors to 8pm at the Franklin Athletic Club in Southfield.

Junior Cesar Escobar Serrano was named the Co-Horizon League Men's Tennis Player of the Week on Monday as Detroit went 2-0. The Titans won conference matches over Valparaiso and UIC.

Detroit (8-12, 3-3 Horizon League) posted a 6-1 Friday as they hosted Valparaiso. The Titans came back on Saturday and swept the weekend with a 4-3 win over UIC as both matches were played at the Titan Tennis Complex on the UDM campus. Detroit currently sits in fourth place in the conference with one Horizon League match against Green Bay remaining next weekend. The top six teams make the conference tournament April 27-29 in Indianapolis.

Serrano and Nunez have identical 5-1 singles record in conference matches and his 10-7 spring season singles mark is second only to Serrano's 14-5.

In doubles, Nunez has paired with freshman Jay Joshi and the two are 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the Horizon League.

Chicago State (0-22, 0-3 MAC) has struggled in the 2012 campaign having captured 10 points overall in the team's 22 losses. The Cougars were last in action on Wednesday as they hosted Division II Lewis and fell by a 7-0 score.

IUPUI (9-13, 4-0 Summit) has won three of its last four matches and has five victories in the last eight. The last win came on April 7 at Western Illinois as the Jaguars won 6-1. Looking at the team's previous three matches, IUPUI hosted Butler winning 4-3, lost to #21 Indiana 7-0 and defeated South Dakota State 6-1. Before Saturday's match-up in Detroit, the Jaguars will play at IPFW Friday afternoon.

The next action for Detroit following this weekend will be the final dual-match of the regular season on a new date of April 20. The Titans will meet Green Bay halfway and play at Valparaiso in the last contest before the Horizon League Tournament.
