VALPARAISO, Ind. --
Cesar Escobar Serrano finished Horizon League play with a 6-1 singles record after a 6-4, 4-6, 10-3 victory in the No. 2 spot Friday afternoon against Green Bay on neutral ground in Valparaiso. The Phoenix would emerge with a 6-1 match win to close out the regular season for both teams.
Serrano was the lone Titan to break through on the afternoon as the Phoenix finish at 6-1 in the conference and will be either the No. 1 or 2 seed in the tournament depending on Wright State's (5-0) final two matches Saturday at Youngstown State and Sunday at Cleveland State.
The junior is now a team-best 16-6 overall and 6-1 in singles to end the dual-match season. Serrano totaled a 3-1 record at No. 2 singles and went 3-0 in the No. 3 spot and has won three of his last four outings.
Detroit will be the No. 5 seed in the tournament as of right now. Butler, currently in the No. 6 seed could bump up to the No. 5 position and move the Titans back to No. 6 with wins over Cleveland State on Saturday and Youngstown State on Sunday. If Butler falls in either match, Detroit will be the No. 5 seed.
The Horizon League Tournament will be April 27-29 in Indianapolis at North Central High School. The seeds, match-ups and schedules will be determined after the conclusion of this weekend.
